Tyre Save Manchester and Trafford Tyres are two independent tyre centres in the north-west of England who were facing issues with energy procurement.
They needed to renew contracts on four electricity meters during a period of persistent market movement. Prices were changing weekly, one supply had already rolled out of contract, and a half hourly meter readings could only be quoted within a short acceptance window.
Tony Davies, Director, wanted competitive pricing, but he also wanted simplicity; one supplier, aligned end dates and confidence that no meter would be overlooked again.
Tyre Save Manchester operates three electricity meters, including a half hourly supply. Trafford Tyres operates one additional meter. Tony had already started researching prices himself and wanted reassurance that the rates being offered represented good value across both businesses.
Timing made the renewal more difficult. Wholesale market movements were feeding through into business energy prices, sometimes changing the available offers within days. The half hourly meter added further pressure because suppliers only hold those quotations for a limited period. A competitive price could disappear before every option had been reviewed and approved.
One of the supplies had also moved onto out of contract rates after the previous renewal was not completed at the right time. That left the business exposed to avoidable costs and highlighted the risk of managing several meters with different contract dates and renewal windows.
Tony needed clear comparisons, quick access to reliable prices and a structure that would make future renewals easier to control. The goal was not simply to sign another contract. It was to remove the fragmented arrangement that had allowed one supply to fall through the net.
We started with the evidence. Historic bills, renewal notices, supplier correspondence and the rolled-over contract were reviewed to confirm the position of all four meters.
Each supply was then costed individually, enabling Tony to see how the available options compared without unnecessary jargon. Market movements were monitored throughout the decision period, with particular attention paid to the half hourly meter and its narrow quotation window.
We were able to:
The contracts were secured at the prices originally offered, despite continued market movement during the decision period. Bringing all four meters under one supplier also created a much clearer arrangement for billing, contract management and future renewals.
We now monitor the renewal position across both businesses and act as the first point of contact for energy-related concerns. Enabling Tony to focus on running the sites, knowing the meters are being managed together and that future renewal activity will not be left until the last minute.
